PERSONAL TRAINING
Dobry is also a former competitive bodybuilder and has competed in numerous local, regional and national bodybuilding competitions. Dobry started training fighters while still fighting himself. Living in Paris, and unable to get a work visa, Dobry was able to earn money training fighters he met in the gym. The french boxers, schooled in the 'Marquis of Queensbury' style, were hungry to learn the inside and Kronk techniques Dobry used sparring them. Upon returning to the states Dobry started boxing competitively again and eventually made the transition from fighter to trainer and opened up his own gym.
"There is a reason they call it the 'education of a fighter', Dobry says. "You're going to school". "I train my fighters to be technicians, to have solutions for every problem they will encounter in the ring." "I've learned more about boxing since retiring than I knew when I was fighting. I learned much by default, by sparring with the best boxers here, in Europe, and from Mexico and Central & South America. Fighters call this 'experience'. "I train all my fighters in the style that compliments their body-type and mental fortitude and, unlike most of the trainers around today, I'm a 'hands-on' trainer. I spar with all my fighters and share my experience with them in the ring, not just on the pads. "There are those who come to me who have absolutely no boxing experience whatsoever. The truth is that I prefer to train those with no boxing experience over those who come to me from a Mixed Martial Arts, or Martial Arts studio where they've acquired skills that resemble street-fighting more than boxing. They may call it "stand-up", but it ain't boxing and I have to spend a lot of time having the client unlearn the bad stuff while he/she learns legitimate boxing skills", Dobry says. Whether you want to acquire legitimate bona-fide boxing skills, or need to unlearn the deficient stand-up skills you acquired at a Mixed Martial Arts/Martial Arts studio, Dobry has the experience to help you reach your goal. And, you don't have to be a competitive fighter to benefit from Dobry's training programs. Approx. 75% of Dobry's clients have no desire to fight. They just want to get into 'fighting shape'. 50% of Dobry's clients are woman. 25% are kids (self-esteem, bully victims, etc.), 60% are over 30 years of age and 15% are between 40 - 70 years of age. Many are amateurs or professionals in other sports who cross-train with boxing. Dobry will create your own unique training program. Dobry will design a program specifically to your needs and cross-training with weights and applying the principles of low-glycemic dieting will accelerate fat loss and muscle growth which motivate clients to keep at it. OUR PROMISE TO YOU! At the School of Hard Knocks we offer high-quality boxing instruction at affordable prices. We do not get clients into long-term contracts that rack-up $100 - $200 monthly charges on their credit card or do we debit client's checking accounts. We don't promise clients the world and then fail to provide them what was promised or entrap them in no-way-out contracts. We are not a front for a finance company and we do not retain the services of bill collectors. We don't have to. What we DO do, is provide hi-quality services at affordable prices. It is relatively easy to get a person desperate to get into shape, or wanting to box, to sign-up for a membership, the FIRST TIME. What our challenge is... is to get existing members to renew after their original membership expires. At that time the member will ask himself, "What did I get out of the membership?", "Did I lose fat?", "Did I lose inches?", "Has my cardio-vascular fitness improved?", "Have I acquired above-average boxing skills?", “Was it FUN?” Our success is totally dependent on the excellence of the services we provide and for us to keep those services affordable to a niche demographic that is, and has been, exploited by Martial Arts and Mixed Martial Arts facilities offering sub-par boxing instruction as part of an expensive, entrapping, no-way-out-of-contract, membership. Our business depends on renewals to continue as a going concern. We understand that. That is why our members are very special to us and why we treat them as special. Come and try-out a class for free. See if it's for you. Talk to the other members. Get their input. We believe that we offer a membership that will simply KNOCK YOU OUT! Gary Dobry
